BATMAN AUCTION NEWS - Rare ROBIN PEZ Dispenser Sells For Over $1500

Just recently, on evil eBay, a Rare ROBIN The Boy Wonder PEZ CANDY Dispenser Prototype sold for $1540.00, wow! Back in the 1970's the PEZ CANDY Company came out with a set of DC Comics Superhero Dispensers. They made Batman, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, The Joker, and The Penguin. Now that was not a big deal really. They came out with new characters all the time. But the thing about these that were special were that they had "rubber heads" instead of the regular hard plastic ones. PEZ experimented with this on occasion & there are a few "Rubber Heads" out there. I don't know if they were created for safety reasons or to lower the cost of production, who knows.

But as a manufacturing company PEZ needed to create promotional literature to send to Retail Store chains so these places would order their product. So, from time to time, they would make these "fake PEZ" for the photographs, usually, before production happened. Most of the time they had already created a mold in which to make the product. OK, for a promo photo they added some ROBIN PEZ that they were considering. Why he was dropped nobody knows but my guess is that they thought he would not sell very well ( everybody will want "Batman" ) or they wanted a "Girl PEZ" to make sure that Moms bought these toys for their Daughters too. That might explain the weird fact that there is a "Wonder Woman" mixed in with all these Batman characters.

So now this long-winded story ( sorry ) gets to the modern-day Auction. This eBay Seller had somehow come across this RARE "Robin" Prototype that was still "MINT in Original Package" & never produced on a large scale. Like, I don't know the exact numbers, but they might have only made 10 of these & then how many of these exist today? So, in both the PEZ collecting world and Batman Memorabilia this ROBIN PEZ is super-rare!

BATMAN AUCTION NEWS - Jerry Robinson's Original Cover Art for DETECTIVE COMICS #67

In recent BATMAN AUCTION NEWS everybody is totally excited about a new piece of Original Golden Age Comic Book Art that has hit the market, it's the Cover Art to DETECTIVE COMICS #67! HERITAGE AUCTIONS of Dallas, Texas is offering it on October 27th,2011. The sale ends around November 15th-17th, 2011. This masterpiece was drawn by Jerry Robinson back in the "Batman Golden Age" era. It's also important to note that this cover was the very first appearance of a character named THE PENGUIN. It's an extremely important piece of Bat-History & my guess is that it will set a record price. I think he said they were about 6 pages deep & the pages are very thick so they're safe for tiny children's hands. The artwork on these look pretty awesome! And at $1.00 each they're not a bad deal. These Custom Made BATMAN Toys ROCK!

Here's a quick post to share a few photos sent in by 2 Bat-Blog Fans named John & Mike. They're both very creative people & have made some really cool Custom BATMAN Toys!

John's story goes like this:
For awhile he's been into finding old broken action figures & improving them. He said he has always wanted to do a Custom "Comic Action Penguin" & he recently found a broken one he could work on. Now, for people who don't know, "Comic Action" Figures were made around 1976 by MEGO & they practically have a cult following. One thing about them, that gives them a lot of charm, is that they were kinda cheesy, ha! But John gave his figure some new legs & custom paint job. The result is pretty impressive.




Mike's story goes like this:
Mike is a Father of 2 kids who totally love Cartoon Network's BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD animated series. They love to play with the toys and action figures of the characters from the TV show. But the problem was, no matter how hard they looked, they could never find the "Robin" figure & really wanted one. So, their Dad made them the 2 shown here. The 1st photo shows how he made a Robin figure to go with the regular Batman Action Figure from the toy line by Mattel. The 2nd photo shows a custom "Robin" toy of an "Action League" mini-figure. So, 2 different toy lines are covered here. Plus, Mike did an amazing job on these & the kids totally love playing with them! Thanks to both Toy Custom Artists for sharing their work. We want to invite all other Bat-Blog Fans out there to do the same.

Exclusive 1966 BATMAN MOVIE WALLPAPER - Illustration Art By Christopher Franchi

The Bat-Blog was recently blessed with a preview of a brand-new illustration by famed Graphic Designer Christopher Franchi. He's the Art Director for Metaluna 5 Media, which handles a lot of licensed properties like: KISS, Bettie Page, Alice Cooper, Star Trek, Superman, Spawn, Peanuts, Evil Dead, Betty Boop and the list goes on & on. Here is an EXCLUSIVE & Super-Awesome 1966 BATMAN WALLPAPER Chris created for the BAT-BLOG! Well, he did all the artwork & I put the Bat-Blog Logo on it, ha! Now, of course, this image relates to the 1960's BATMAN MOVIE because it shows Lee Merriwether as Catwoman. Plus, it's got the other Super-Evil Villains: The Joker ( Cesar Romero ), The Penguin ( Burgess Meredith ), The Riddler ( Frank Gorshin ), and the Hero himself, BATMAN ( Adam West )! The artwork is extremely amazing! The illustrations were all done on Cold-Press Art Board with Gouache and Colored Pencil. Then, they were scanned and assembled digitally. I like how each character has their own colored-outline, to make them sort of pop-off the page. There is also that "light ray" effect that's pretty freakin' cool!! Fisher Price GEO-TRAX DC SUPER FRIENDS Play Sets - GOTHAM CITY & THE JOKER'S LAIR

As an extension of their DC SUPER FRIENDS Toy Line, Fisher Price ( Mattel ) is adding a few New Play Sets with motorized vehicles called "GEO-TRAX". The main component will be the BATCAVE PLAY SET but there will be some extra pieces like these. Shown here are two expansion packs: GOTHAM CITY and The JOKER'S LAIR. They are sort of like Train Sets & each one comes with a vehicle & a figure. The GOTHAM CITY scenery has a bank to rob and a jail to break out of, ha! All of these are made to add to the deluxe BAT-CAVE PLAY SET. You know, to keep growing your collection. They will be sold exclusively at Toys R Us and the Fisher-Price Online Store. Here's a cool video a friend sent us a link to. It's a basic presentation by a Mattel Spokeperson of some new IMAGINEXT DC SUPER FRIENDS TOYS coming out this year. These were presented at the last 2011 TOY FAIR. It looks like they're coming out with a brand-new multi-level Bat-Cave and a ton of new Batman Figures! Here, we get to see the Penguin & his Penguin-Sub, Another Batmobile Vehicle, Clayface, & Catwoman with her Cat-Cycle. Man, how many items are they making for this toy line? I'm gonna need 3 more jobs to buy all of this stuff, ha ha!

Thanks to our good friend Marcio we got some news that, right now in Brazil, they're starting a 2011 BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD Happy Meal Toys Promotion at McDonalds ( In Brazil they call it "Mc Lanche Feliz" ). But the cool thing is that the toys are completely different than the ones we just had here in the USA. For Brazil, it looks like they have gone back to the regular-size toy & there are 4 of them to collect: The PENGUIN in his Penguin-Submarine, a PLASTIC MAN Figure, BATMAN in his BAT-COPTER ( or Bat-Gyro! ), and the JOKER'S Jokermobile Car! Major ART SHOW - TIM BURTON at Los Angeles County Museum of Art

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will present Tim Burton, a major retrospective exploring the full range of Tim Burton's creative work, both as a director of live-action and animated films, and as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. Showcased here are just a few of the "Batman Items" that will be present. We got an original Batman Cowl from a Batman Movie, plus some Costume Design Drawings of both the Penguin & Catwoman from "Batman Returns" and one of The Joker ( Jack Nicholson ) from 1989's BATMAN. Plus, you know there will be much much more! Wow! It looks like a great show!



It will be on view at LACMA from May 29th ( This Sunday! ) through October 31st, 2011, the exhibition brings together over 700 drawings, paintings, photographs, moving-image works, storyboards, puppets, concept artworks, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, including art from a number of unrealized and little-known personal projects. Many of these objects come from the artist's own archive, as well as from studio archives and private collections of Burton's collaborators.



Also, IMPORTANT BOOK SIGNING NOTICE:


Tim Burton will be available at the LAC Museum on SATURDAY, May 28th to personally sign the exhibition catalog book. He'll be there for only 2 hours, between 12:00 & 2:00. For more information, click HERE!

BATMAN ARKHAM CITY NEWS - Penguin Officially Confirmed on PSM3 Video Game Magazine Cover

More information for the BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY Video Game is finally coming out. The PENGUIN has been officially announced as a Villain for the series. This is no surprise really when you consider that in one of the earliest teaser trailers they showed the ICEBERG LOUNGE building. But hey, I love this character, so that's cool! Here's a graphic of him on the cover of the recent UK Edition of PSM3 Magazine. Batman: Arkham City will launch in North America on October 18th, in Europe on October 21st and in Australia on October 19th.

Here's a quick post to share this photo sent in by our good buddy "Batmobilly". The BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD McDonald's Happy Meal Toys came out the other day & I've been so busy the last few days that I have not been able to go see what they look like. Now, when you buy a Kid's Meal there you get 3 small figures or maybe 2 small figures & a vehicle. Here are the ones Batmobilly got: The Penguin, Batman, & the Batmobile!! I think these are pretty cool & I seriously plan on hitting this restaurant tonight. Oh yeah, as a side-note: If you don't want to gag-down their food ( ha ha ) THEY DO SELL the toys separately. Just ask them. In fact, if you can find a cool Restaurant Manager he will build a complete set for you. But personally, I love their Cheeseburgers so I usually get the food, ha ha!

Foreign Reprints - Vintage 1966 BATMAN TV SHOW Paperback Books

I guess this post is sort of a "photo reference". These are some pics I collected awhile back where it's the Vintage 1966 BATMAN TV SHOW and MOVIE Paperback Books, but these are all "foreign-issued" copies. The 1st five are from England & were reprinted by Four Square Illustrated. These special UK editions have slightly different covers than the US versions. My favorite one is THE JOKER with all the weird "Pop Art" colors. I'm not sure about THE CATWOMAN Book & I'm wondering if it's from the UK too. It looks like it was reprinted by some other publisher. Now, the very last photo, is THE PENGUIN Book that was made in Argentina. It appears to be wayyyy more thin than an actual paperback. What's up on that? OK, I'm wondering if anybody has any other versions of these. If so, then please let us know. I think it would be cool if there were German, Spanish, or French editions, ha!

We're excited! The Bat-Blog just got some awesome new photos showing the costumes and set design for the UK stage show of BATMAN LIVE WORLD ARENA TOUR!! They were very large pics so I decided to offer them as super-fun BATMAN LIVE WALLPAPERS you can use to brighten your desktop's background. All the photos are pretty much self-explanatory! YES! FINALLY! We finally get some decent press coverage from the BATMAN LIVE World Tour Show that will start in the UK & then arrive later in the US. Oh yeah, Featured in these 4 Video Clips: We get to see the Set Design, an Animation Sample for the Stage Video Screen, a CG representation of Harley Quinn's Carnival & also Wayne Manor ( with a very small teaser of the Bat-Cave ), and then the very last video shows all the Actors & their Costumes! Oh man, everything looks really really AWESOME!! I think this show is going to be incredible!
